Penebeck Paduana (Amy), our very first pointer. Fondly remembered for her outstanding character and honesty.
Ross (Plushcourt Quaker, Dalric Gambit x Kopi of Crookrise of Plushcourt) then came to join us and was my first Championship Show winner under Frank Duke at Richmond in 1982 - carrying on to win well at all levels.
The next major progression was as a result of a mating between Tycarreg Sparkling Form (C. Firespark daughter) and Danny Boy of Barleas which produced a single surviving puppy Tycarreg Sara Fina (Maud). She was an excellent show dog but was never fully campaigned. Nevertheless she clocked up many impressive wins.
The result of a mating between Maud and Penebeck Quicksilver (Swandance Swift Osprey x Penebeck Jessica) produced Tycarreg Santa Fay (Evie), owned by Ann Bull. Evie had a very successful puppy career with several BPIB, stakes wins and major highlights - BPIS at Setter & Pointer (1994) and winning junior bitch at Crufts the following year.
Evie was then mated to Swandance the Irishman (Seamus, Ch. Rossanara Eldorado of Toberdoney x Sh Ch Swandance Signet). We selected Roses in the Snow (Josie) from the litter and she became our first CC winner at Windsor in 1998 under breed specialist M Blake (Blakeshay). In 2000 she gained a Reserve CC from Cicely Robertshaw (Crookrise) at Border Union.
Concurrent with Josie's successful show career we also enjoyed exceptional success with Penwest Pelham (Declan) Peakdale Jackdaw x Sh Ch Bradgate Kassiopi of Penwest. Major wins included BIS at Open Show level which qualified him for 'South Wales Kennel Association Dog of the Year Competition' which he attended in Its inception millennium year and also 2003.
Tycarreg Seren Fai (Elen), Penwest Pelham at Tycarreg x Roses in the Snow. Elen was well known for her superb temperament and fundamental soundness - the ongoing mission of the Tycarreg kennel.
She had many show firsts including Crufts 2001, two BIS, two BPIS and Pro Dogs Stakes winner 2002. She was also one of the SWKA Breeders' Stakes winning team members. Elen also gained a Reserve Green Star at the 2004 Irish Pointer Club Championship Show.
Then Evan burst onto the scene, a truly exceptional dog, the result of repeat a mating between Penwest Pelham at Tycarreg and Roses in the Snow. From a flying start with his Junior Warrant award he enjoyed amazing success to become our first homebred Show Champion. A super character, he charmed all who met him with his kind demeanour and clownish antics.
Juennerfly Amber Tycarreg joined us kennel in 2003 and had a promising start to her show career but then became a martyr to her hormones! Early highlights included Best Puppy in Show at the Irish Pointer Club, a BIS, a RBIS, 2 RBPIS, several Best Puppy in Breed and many other 1st prizes. Evan was her sire, her mother being Sh Ch Bonnygate Gunns 'n Roses.
Charlie, Tycarreg Shotto Fame won at Championship show level and had an exciting puppy career, achieving Best Puppy Dog in Breed, three Reserve Best Puppy's In Show along with many other super wins. He was a model showdog but also loved the open spaces - as seen in his photo above.
Tycarreg Silver Finn. Blaze achieved Best Puppy In Show and Reserve Best Puppy In Show. He and Charlie were sired by Juennerfly Arkwright out of our own Tycarreg Seren Fai. In his later years Blaze achieved his greatest ambition - to become a little overweight!
Kiswahili Kai at Tycarreg (Tom) enjoyed a very successful puppy career, winning several BPIS and Puppy Groups as well as Championship Show firsts. On the arrival of his son (Rhys) he stepped out of the limelight. Being a lively lad, he prefers to do anything but go into the show ring!
Sh Ch Tycarreg Strangely Familyr JW ShCM (Rhys) is the result of a mating between Kiswahili Kai at Tycarreg and Juennerfly Amber Tycarreg, a long-awaited litter. Rhys made his mark at home with his mellow attitude and winning ways and has also been highly successful in the show ring with many excellent results.
Rhys won through to Show Champion status having enjoyed great success with his excellent handler, Matthew Oddie. He has now sadly passed away, our very last pointer, marking the end to our involvement with the breed.
Penwest Pallaton (Trio) is sired by Crookrise Floyd and his mother is Penwest Phedra JW. He is co-owned with Gerald Phillips and Penny Westaway. Trio made his debut at National Gundog Association and won Minor Puppy Dog under Dr C Buchanan Robertson.
Also easy winner of naughtiest puppy of the year! The photo shows him aged 7 months. He now lives with his breeder Penny in Leicestershire.
And now for something completely different! Adding a Silken Windhound to our kennel has been a long-felt desire and we were so lucky to find a breeder practically on our doorstep! Having owned lurchers in the past we were not complete novices to sighthounds and Ianto (pronounced yan-toe) immediately won our hearts. We have had great fun with him all through his puppyhood and now he is adult he competes regularly at local agricultural and exemption shows in Wales as well as the breed club shows in Kent.
